No more copying a textbook passage into your notes or retyping a document by hand.
SnapText is an OCR app that scans textbooks, notes and documents with your camera, turns them into text, and lets you ask AI about what you just captured. Need a hard passage explained, a long one summarized, or a foreign one translated? Ask right there.
Just point and capture
Aim at a page and a yellow frame shows what SnapText will read. Pinch to resize the frame and drag it with two fingers. Text is recognized live in the camera view, so you can check it before you save.
Clean up messy results
Fix misread characters and broken line breaks with denoising.
- "Server": the text is sent to the server for cleanup.
- "On device": download an AI model of about 1.5 GB, and cleanup runs entirely on your phone.
Copy the cleaned text into any app.
Ask AI about what you scanned
Open a saved scan and tap "Ask AI." The AI explains the text in plain words, and because it reads the full scan first, its answers stay on what you actually captured.
- Follow up with one tap: "Give me a quiz," "More detail" or "Simpler."
- Or just type what you need, like "Summarize this" or "Translate this into Spanish."
Keep every scan in one list
Tap "Save" and the original image and the recognized text go into your list. Pinch to zoom into the image and copy the text whenever you need it.
Reads 14 languages
Choose from Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese and Arabic.
On Android, Russian, Thai and Arabic text can't be read.
Text recognition stays on your device
- Recognition runs on your device with Apple Vision on iPhone and Google ML Kit on Android. Your camera feed and images are not sent to the Developer's servers.
- Saved images and text are stored on your device.
- Text is sent over the network to AI services only when you use AI chat or denoising on the server.
